I am such a sucker and got taken for too much money based on a Paypal invoice that I opened in my junkmail box. Had the number to call at the bottom. I called it and the trouble began, I broke the cardinal rule of never opening anything in junk box! Expensive mistake. Any advice to help cancel the 2 payments made this week that the phishers basically forced me to make as a way of reversing the charges to my account? (or so they said) I am feeling like such a fool right now so please take it easy on me.

Do you pay for paypal items with a CC? If so, you can probably call your CC company and claim it as fraud? I would also try calling paypal, altho was the money sent to "friends?" I believe they won't refund money in that case. But this is still an out and out fraudulent activity so I'd be letting paypal know anyway.

But still, I would go at this at the payment method to paypal more than anything. You were frauded so even if you happened to do something not recommended, you don't deserve to lose money over it. It's really no different than if you lost your wallet and some scumbag finds it and runs out and charges up the cc's. The banks eat fraudulent charges pretty darn often, because they know if they don't, no one would risk even using CC's anymore. I'm sure this cost is factored into their interest and usage charges. They aren't suffering - that's for sure.

It sucks that we have to be so careful using our own dang email. You're certainly not the first one who's ever had this happen.

Anyway, that's what I would do...
 
If it's a credit card and not a debit card then your cc company will normally do a charge back with one quick email. It happens to all of us and a legit bank will squash it pretty quick.

Even charges on a debit card can be challenged as well, as I lost a wallet several years ago and had charges on both the CC and Debit. Debit takes longer to get funds reinstated tho.

Debit refunds are not supposed to be treated differently than CC by law
